From Saaser Alp to St. Antönien

Walking has always been the most natural form of movement.

Hiking means returning to our roots and our own pace. Hiking allows us to explore, but also relax.

So, with the Silvretta Group behind us, we take on some of Switzerland's 65,000 km of hiking trails and set off toward the Rätikon Mountains to the tranquil Walser village of St. Antönien.

Munt Buffalora

The area around the Ofenpass is characterized by wild nature, but also by numerous historical traces.

The name Ofenpass recalls the former mining industry, and remnants of iron smelters and blast furnaces can still be seen in the landscape.

South of Buffalora are old mine tunnels.

In the Middle Ages, iron ore was mined here and further processed in smelting furnaces near Il Fuorn.

A rocky detour to Schlappin Valley

The mountains of the Alps have fascinated us humans for generations.

Everything up above is different than down below. Quieter. Farther. More authentic.

As the plants become smaller, the shrubs flatter, and the trees fewer and fewer, nature reaches its limits.

And we hikers, with our summit goals, come alive. Even if we don't actually climb a peak on our way to the Schlappin Valley, we are still in the midst of it.

Among rock, scree, and our fascinating mountain world.

For night owls - night hike with open fire cheese fondue

Night hiking - a special way to connect with our surroundings.

In the dark, we perceive everything around us differently. Visual stimuli are reduced, and our other senses are heightened. Animal sounds, the wind in the trees, the smell of damp forest floor - we perceive all of these more intensely. This makes night hiking a small but exciting expedition.

We start at dusk and hike through the forest to Alp Novai, where we fortify ourselves with a delicious cheese fondue cooked over an open fire.

In the dark, we hike along the Landquart river back to Klosters.
